why don't the 007 james bond films have any connection with each other?
so I grew up watching Peirce Brosnan in GoldenEye and I saw all his four films but they don’t have any connections with each other. is each film supposed to be individual?

Isn’t that GREAT!!!!

You can pick up any James Bond movie and it makes total sense and it’s very well self-contained as a story without losing anything. Movies that rely on a series often use the series as a crutch, with poor character development after the first movie, poorly thought out plot elements that rely on viewers "getting it" because of their existing familiarity with the story etc.

Some Bond movies DO have connections with each other (for example, the recurrence of Spectre, General Gogol’s organization, etc.)

And as always, there are fundamental Bond elements that you find in ALL movies (like his uncanny ability to seduce VERY hot looking women…WHAT A GUY!!)

im not sure. i think so. each one is a different mission. kinda like the mission impossibles.

None of Ian Fleming’s books followed on from each other. They are simply one-off stories that feature the same main character.
So the films are the same.

PRETTY MUCH… think about it. They can literally have a monkey walk around in a suit and it will make millions in the box office. They want to milk the 007 movies for as mucha as they can get. That is why they are not connected…. Another thing, I think it would be really hard to connect like 22 movies to one another. ( i think thats how many james bond movies there are)

Back in the old days, when Bond films were based on the novels of Ian Fleming, there would often be some small mention of previous adventures, such as a remark from Moneypenny about Bond’s sunburn after Dr. No. Once they abandoned the novels and just used the titles, such as "The Spy Who Loved Me" and "The Man With the Golden Gun" then they stopped connecting them and just made them all the same, as stand alone films.

edit: Oh-oh, I just remembered! In "Quantum of Solace" there are frequent references to Vesper! So there is a connection between "Casino Royale" and "Quantum" pj

The original films in the 60’s were based on Ian Fleming’s novels, but very little of the Pierce Brosnan films were written by Fleming, with the exception of them taking the title of his home in Bermuda. Goldeneye.

I’m not sure maybe just cuz they are like different missions?
but they are all good movies!

Yes, each one is a self contained story, although they are different missions in the life of the same man. Occasionally there is a reference to an earlier film. Jaws was a Bond villain who has been in at least 2 different Bond films. Moonraker, with Roger Moore, and I forget the other one.

quantum of solace n casino royale did hav a connection

But they do "M" That gadget guy and 007, and of cores Ian Flemming.
What kind of connection are you looking for??

The author of the original james bond novel’s Ian Fleming died in 1964, at this point only 12 stories had been written. After the first 5 james bond films, the distributors contracted a further 5 films to be produced. With an aim for the tenth to be the final. Due to financial success further scripts were commissioned, however the writers had to delve into background stories and sub plots to keep the films interesting and also viably chronological (well despite the ever changing cast). But yes your point is correct, the films are meant to only have the basic similarities, because the majority audience of today’s james bond blockbuster will be oblivious there has been 21 other films before it.

Artist of The Day: Chris Cunningham?
he. might. be. a. genius.

Director Chris Cunningham’s work in music video, commercial, and video art are well known and loved. Cunningham first made a name for himself in the early 90’s in the art departments of major motion pictures, designing robots and creatures for Clive Barker and David Fincher. His work on Judge Dredd propelled him, in 1995, to work with the late Stanley Kubrick on his then-unfinished project A.I. (which was picked up by Speilberg).

While working with Kubrick, Cunningham directed his first music video, Autechre’s Second Bad Vilbel. What followed was a series of videos with various alternative English rock bands where Cunningham learned the ropes of filmmaking.

In 1997 Chris Cunningham directed the orgiastic mind-fuck known as Come to Daddy, a video which landed him squarely on the radar of every artist on the planet. Over the next two years Cunningham directed six videos and seven commercials, each with their own brand of genius.

In 2000 Cunningham directed two short films for the Anthony D’Offay Gallery titled flex and Monkey Drummer. Those works showed a very modern and hyper-realistic take on the world.

In 2005 Cunningham released Rubber Johnny, a six-minute short that showed just how disturbing a vision Chris has. It came released with a book whose photos are definitely unsafe for work.

Since then, the Englishman has helmed a video for garage rock band the Horrors. He also famously attempted an adaptation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk novel Neuromancer, as well as an adaptation of the comic RanXerox. He is reportedly currently working on one or more feature films.
